Embark on an exhilarating 10-Day Margherita Peak Trekking adventure to the highest peak on Mount Rwenzori, standing at 5,109 meters above sea level. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival for the 10-Day Margherita Peak Trekking and Hotel Transfer

Upon arrival in Entebbe, our representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Take this time to relax and prepare for the upcoming adventure. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Drive to Kasese, Western Uganda for the 10-Day Margherita Peak Trekking

After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Kasese and Nyakalengija, located at the base of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges. Spend the night at the foothills of the mountains, allowing yourself to acclimate to the altitude.

Day 3: Hike from Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Camp (2,651m)

Start the day with a delicious breakfast before heading to Nyakalengija (1,615m), the trailhead. Meet your guides and porters, receive a briefing, and begin the hike. The initial part of the trail passes through Bakonzo Farm and gradually ascends to Nyabitaba Hut. Keep your wet-weather gear handy as some sections of the trail can be muddy. Overnight stay at Nyabitaba Camp.

Day 4: Trek from Nyabitaba to John Matte (3,505m)

Today’s hike takes you through steep sections and diverse landscapes. Descend to the confluence of the Bujuuku and Mubuku Rivers before ascending through heather and giant groundsel forests to John Matte Hut. Be prepared for wet and muddy conditions along the way. Overnight stay at John Matte Hut.

Day 5: Continue to Bujuku Hut (3,962m)

Embark on a hike across Bigo Bogs and the Kibatsi Bog, where rubber boots are recommended. Enjoy stunning views of Mount Baker, Mount Speke, and Mount Stanley as you approach Bujuku Hut. Overnight stay at Bujuku Hut.

Day 6: Proceed to Elena Hut (4,541m)

The trail from Bujuku takes you through more boggy terrain as you climb towards Elena Hut. The route offers breathtaking views and leads you closer to Margherita Peak. Dinner and overnight stay at Elena Hut.

Day 7: Summit Margherita Peak (5,109m) and descend to Kitandara (4,430m)

Start early for a challenging climb to Margherita Peak, which takes approximately 4-5 hours. The ascent involves traversing glaciers, slippery rock, ice, and exposed areas. After reaching the summit, descend back to Elena Hut for lunch before continuing to Kitandara Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Descend from Kitandara to Guy Yeoman (3,261m)

Embark on a steep climb over Fresh Field Pass before descending to Guy Yeoman Hut, situated in a giant heather zone. Take precautions for joint support during the descent. Overnight stay at Guy Yeoman Hut.

Day 9: Trek from Guy Yeoman to Nyakalengija (1,615m)

Start early for a long descent back to Nyakalengija. Cross bamboo forests, muddy paths, and the Mubuku River before completing the circuit at Nyakalengija. Spend the night at the camp.

Day 10: Return to Entebbe or Extend Your 10-Day Margherita Peak Trekking Safari

After breakfast, embark on a 7-hour drive back to Entebbe with an en-route lunch. Arrive in Entebbe in time for your outbound flight or extend your adventure with another exciting safari.
