Detailed itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi, Kenya

Touchdown in Nairobi

Arrive in Nairobi, Kenya’s vibrant capital city, where your adventure begins. After checking into your hotel, you can rest from your journey or explore Nairobi’s attractions, like the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage or the Giraffe Centre. These unique experiences offer a gentle introduction to Kenya’s conservation efforts and the remarkable animals you’ll soon encounter.

Day 2: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve

Journey to the Legendary Masai Mara

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve, home to one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. Known for its rolling plains, acacia trees, and rich diversity, the Masai Mara is one of the best places to witness the Great Migration and the Big Five.

Afternoon Game Drive

Once settled at your camp or lodge, enjoy your first game drive in the Mara. Keep an eye out for elephants, giraffes, lions, and cheetahs roaming freely. If you’re visiting between July and October, you may witness the iconic river crossings as wildebeests and zebras navigate the crocodile-infested Mara River—a thrilling yet harrowing sight.

Day 3: Full Day in Masai Mara

Morning and Afternoon Game Drives: Big Cats and River Crossings

Spend the entire day exploring the Masai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. The park’s open landscape allows for exceptional wildlife visibility, making it easy to spot lions lounging under trees, herds of buffalo, and elusive leopards. If you’re here during the migration season, the plains are filled with thousands of wildebeests and zebras, all on the move.

Optional Maasai Village Visit

Consider an optional visit to a Maasai village for an immersive cultural experience. You’ll learn about Maasai traditions, see traditional dances, and gain insight into the tribe’s deep connection with the land and its wildlife.

Day 4: Masai Mara to Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

Crossing Into Tanzania

Today, journey across the border into Tanzania and head to the renowned Serengeti National Park. Known for its expansive plains and dramatic wildlife scenes, the Serengeti is Tanzania’s crown jewel. After clearing border formalities, enjoy a scenic drive through the landscapes that link these two iconic parks.

Afternoon Game Drive in Serengeti

Arrive at your lodge and embark on an afternoon game drive. This first taste of the Serengeti will reveal vast plains dotted with acacias, where lions, elephants, and giraffes roam. The Serengeti’s distinct beauty lies in its sense of space and endless horizons, which make it a paradise for wildlife.

Day 5: Full Day in Serengeti

Game Drives in the Heart of the Serengeti

Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti with morning and afternoon game drives. This park is particularly famous for its predator sightings, with high chances of spotting lions, cheetahs, and leopards. In the migration season, the plains are alive with movement as massive herds of wildebeests and zebras graze and make their way across the savannah.

Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari

For a unique experience, consider a dawn hot air balloon safari (optional) over the Serengeti. As you float above the plains, you’ll get an unparalleled view of the wildlife below, framed by the soft light of dawn. Finish with a champagne breakfast in the bush, adding a touch of luxury to your adventure.

Day 6: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Morning Game Drive and Transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After an early morning game drive in the Serengeti, continue your journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the world’s most remarkable geological formations, with a massive volcanic caldera that hosts a vibrant ecosystem.

Evening Arrival at Ngorongoro Crater Rim

Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim, where you’ll enjoy spectacular views into the crater. This evening, relax and take in the panoramic scenery from your lodge as you prepare for tomorrow’s descent into this wildlife-packed wonder.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive

Descend Into the “Garden of Eden”

Start the day with an early breakfast, then descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, often called the “Garden of Eden” for its lush environment and incredible wildlife density. This enclosed haven is home to nearly 25,000 large animals, including a healthy population of lions, elephants, buffalo, and the rare black rhino.

Full-Day Exploring the Crater Floor

The crater’s diverse habitats; swamps, lakes, grasslands, and forests—make it a magnet for wildlife. Enjoy a full day of game drives with a picnic lunch near a hippo pool, allowing you to experience the tranquility of the crater. This is one of the few places in East Africa where you have a good chance of spotting all members of the Big Five in a single day.

Day 8: Return to Arusha and Departure

Drive Back to Arusha

After breakfast, make your way back to Arusha, where you can reflect on the unforgettable sights and experiences of the past week. If time allows, visit local markets for last-minute shopping or simply relax before your departure.

Farewell to East Africa

Your safari ends in Arusha, where you’ll either transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home or continue exploring Tanzania. After eight days of breathtaking landscapes, cultural encounters, and incredible wildlife sightings. You’ll leave with memories that will stay with you forever.

Great time with gorilla trekking and Kiiza I had a great time doing gorilla trekking at Bwindi. The highlight of the trip (besides the gorillas, of course) was Kiiza, the driver/guide with whom I spent two days. Great guy, great personality, knowledgeable and really helped to elevate the bar. Wish you all the success, Kiiza! The only problem I had involved the visas required to go from Rwanda to Uganda and back. I ended up spending more than would be necessary if I had received the correct information. A small nuisance when considered the experience as a whole.

Great 4 days tour Rwanda/Uganda We had an amazing 4 days tour starting Kigali. The organization from Kyooma was very good. Mwijie was very fast in responding to messages and always reachable. Our Guide and Driver Kiiza did an excellent job bringing us to all our destinations safely & in time, and telling so many interesting stories about the country, the animals and locals, and much more. We had a fantastic time - thank you Kiiza. The highlights: so many. The amazing gorillas, the chimps at Kyambura Gorge, the playing golden monkeys, the >50 elefants at Kazinga Channel and much more. An Experience We Will Treasure Forever Our 8-day journey in Uganda with Kyooma Gorilla Safari was truly unforgettable. From the very first contact, we felt listened to and genuinely cared for, with a perfectly tailor-made itinerary designed around our needs. The accommodations exceeded our expectations, the food was excellent, and every detail was thoughtfully organized. Our guide, Edgar, was not only a skilled and safe driver, but also a wonderful companion throughout the trip: knowledgeable, kind, and always ready to share insights, with very good English. Meeting the gorillas was an incredibly emotional, once-in-a-lifetime experience. We were especially grateful for the support in arranging a sedan chair for my mother, which made this extraordinary moment possible for her as well. We couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommended!

Super bravi e organizzati!!!

High recomendation to reach out this company when planning your trip The Kyooma Gorilla Safari made our trip unforgettable. Mwije, tha manager, prepared every single detail of our journey, adapted to our needs (pick up in Rwanda, Kigali, set off in Uganda, Lake Bunyuni, incl. golden monkeys and gorilla tracking), and to our limited budget. Do not hesitate to ask her about anything, she also helped me to arrange medical treatment in local hospital! And the guide/driver Muhwezi Shever is so professional, educated and willing person always smiling. And bought us a tone of mangos in the market :-D Accomodation and food during our trip always on very high level.

Incredible 2 day gorilla trek Our experience with Kyooma for a 2 day Mountain Gorilla trek was exceptional! The entire experience was more than we could have hoped for, seeing a family of 10 gorillas up close was unforgettable. Highly recommend taking the 2 day option to visit the genocide memorial and enjoy the lodge and area, including the women's collective. Mwije (office manager at Kyooma) was so friendly and responsive, planning was easy and seamless. Our guide Robert was knowledgeable and friendly and a great driver. The accommodation at Da Vinci Lodge was excellent - the food was terrific (we chose our menu for each meal and acccomodating a vegetarian diet was no problem) and enjoyed a warm fire in our room and hot water bottles in our beds. Everyone went out of their way to make it a comfortable and worry free trip from beginning to end. Very strongly recommend Kyooma!!
