Day 1: Arrival in Kampala and Introduction to Uganda’s Religious Landscape

Your journey begins in Uganda’s bustling capital, Kampala. After a warm welcome at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll head to your hotel to relax and refresh. Later, enjoy a guided city tour to understand Uganda’s diverse religious tapestry.

Highlights of the day include:

  • Namirembe Cathedral: As the oldest cathedral in Uganda, this Anglican site boasts stunning architecture and offers panoramic views of Kampala.
  • Rubaga Cathedral: A magnificent Catholic church that serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Kampala.
  • Gaddafi National Mosque: Located on Kampala Hill, this mosque symbolizes the Islamic faith in Uganda and offers breathtaking views from its minaret.

Conclude the day with dinner at a local restaurant, sampling Ugandan delicacies.

Day 2: Historical Sites and Martyrs’ Shrines

Start your day with a visit to the Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo, a pilgrimage site that commemorates 22 Catholic and Anglican martyrs who were executed for their faith in the late 19th century. The serene gardens and chapel make it a reflective and inspiring experience.

Next, explore:

  • Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine: Another site linked to the Uganda Martyrs, offering insights into their journey of faith and sacrifice.
  • Old Kampala’s Historical Mosque: Learn about the history of Islam in Uganda, as well as the cultural significance of this iconic structure.

End the day by experiencing traditional performances at Ndere Cultural Centre, where Uganda’s cultural diversity comes to life through music and dance.

Day 3: Jinja – The Source of the Nile and Spiritual Sites

Journey to Jinja, the source of the Nile River, where spirituality meets natural beauty. Along the way, stop at:

  • Ssezibwa Falls: A site with cultural and spiritual significance in Buganda traditions. The peaceful environment is perfect for reflection.

In Jinja:

  • Visit Jinja’s Historic Churches: These include All Saints Church and St. Joseph’s Cathedral, which played pivotal roles in spreading Christianity in the region.
  • Enjoy a boat ride to the actual source of the Nile, marveling at the intersection of nature and divinity.

Return to Kampala for an overnight stay.

Travel west to Fort Portal, a town known for its interfaith harmony and scenic landscapes. Highlights include:

  • Virika Cathedral: A historical Catholic church that dates back to the early missionary efforts in Uganda.

Spend the evening exploring Fort Portal’s vibrant markets and interacting with local communities, gaining deeper insights into their faith and traditions.

Day 5: Spiritual Reflections and Departure.

Great time with gorilla trekking and Kiiza I had a great time doing gorilla trekking at Bwindi. The highlight of the trip (besides the gorillas, of course) was Kiiza, the driver/guide with whom I spent two days. Great guy, great personality, knowledgeable and really helped to elevate the bar. Wish you all the success, Kiiza! The only problem I had involved the visas required to go from Rwanda to Uganda and back. I ended up spending more than would be necessary if I had received the correct information. A small nuisance when considered the experience as a whole.

Great 4 days tour Rwanda/Uganda We had an amazing 4 days tour starting Kigali. The organization from Kyooma was very good. Mwijie was very fast in responding to messages and always reachable. Our Guide and Driver Kiiza did an excellent job bringing us to all our destinations safely & in time, and telling so many interesting stories about the country, the animals and locals, and much more. We had a fantastic time - thank you Kiiza. The highlights: so many. The amazing gorillas, the chimps at Kyambura Gorge, the playing golden monkeys, the >50 elefants at Kazinga Channel and much more. Great experiences!

An Experience We Will Treasure Forever Our 8-day journey in Uganda with Kyooma Gorilla Safari was truly unforgettable. From the very first contact, we felt listened to and genuinely cared for, with a perfectly tailor-made itinerary designed around our needs. The accommodations exceeded our expectations, the food was excellent, and every detail was thoughtfully organized. Our guide, Edgar, was not only a skilled and safe driver, but also a wonderful companion throughout the trip: knowledgeable, kind, and always ready to share insights, with very good English. Meeting the gorillas was an incredibly emotional, once-in-a-lifetime experience. We were especially grateful for the support in arranging a sedan chair for my mother, which made this extraordinary moment possible for her as well. We couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommended!

Super bravi e organizzati!!!

High recomendation to reach out this company when planning your trip The Kyooma Gorilla Safari made our trip unforgettable. Mwije, tha manager, prepared every single detail of our journey, adapted to our needs (pick up in Rwanda, Kigali, set off in Uganda, Lake Bunyuni, incl. golden monkeys and gorilla tracking), and to our limited budget. Do not hesitate to ask her about anything, she also helped me to arrange medical treatment in local hospital! And the guide/driver Muhwezi Shever is so professional, educated and willing person always smiling. And bought us a tone of mangos in the market :-D Accomodation and food during our trip always on very high level.

Incredible 2 day gorilla trek Our experience with Kyooma for a 2 day Mountain Gorilla trek was exceptional! The entire experience was more than we could have hoped for, seeing a family of 10 gorillas up close was unforgettable. Highly recommend taking the 2 day option to visit the genocide memorial and enjoy the lodge and area, including the women's collective. Mwije (office manager at Kyooma) was so friendly and responsive, planning was easy and seamless. Our guide Robert was knowledgeable and friendly and a great driver. The accommodation at Da Vinci Lodge was excellent - the food was terrific (we chose our menu for each meal and acccomodating a vegetarian diet was no problem) and enjoyed a warm fire in our room and hot water bottles in our beds. Everyone went out of their way to make it a comfortable and worry free trip from beginning to end. Very strongly recommend Kyooma!!
