A 23 Days Uganda Safari with Kyooma Gorilla Safaris through this enchanting country is the ultimate way to explore its wonders, from the misty highlands and lush forests to the sweeping savannahs and shimmering lakes. This detailed itinerary takes you through Uganda’s most iconic destinations, ensuring you experience the very best of nature, culture, and adventure.

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where you’ll be warmly welcomed. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore the nearby Botanical Gardens or Uganda Wildlife Education Centre. Relax at your hotel, preparing for the journey ahead.

Day 2: Entebbe – Jinja (Source of the Nile)

Drive to Jinja, the adventure capital of East Africa. En route, stop at Mabira Forest for a short nature walk. In Jinja, marvel at the Source of the Nile, where the mighty river begins its 6,600 km journey to the Mediterranean. Optional activities include white-water rafting, bungee jumping, or a Nile sunset cruise.

Day 3: Jinja Adventure Day

Spend a full day in Jinja enjoying adrenaline-pumping activities. Take on Grade 5 rapids on the Nile, go kayaking, or try horseback riding along the riverbanks. Those who prefer relaxation can enjoy fishing or a community tour to learn about the local Basoga culture.

Day 4: Jinja – Sipi Falls

Travel to the foothills of Mount Elgon to the stunning Sipi Falls. This highland paradise is dotted with cascading waterfalls, coffee plantations, and scenic views of the Karamoja plains. In the evening, enjoy a guided coffee experience, learning how Arabica coffee is grown and processed.

Day 5: Hiking Sipi Falls

Spend the day exploring the Sipi Falls trails. Hike to all three waterfalls, each offering dramatic views and photography opportunities. For the adventurous, try abseiling down one of the falls. Later, enjoy a sundowner at the “Sunset Rock” viewpoint overlooking the Rift Valley.

Day 6: Sipi – Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve

Head to Pian Upe, one of Uganda’s hidden gems. This less-visited reserve offers unique wildlife such as cheetahs, elands, ostriches, and hyenas. Evening game drive to experience the vast savannah under golden light.

Day 7: Pian Upe – Kidepo Valley National Park

Journey northwards to the remote Kidepo Valley National Park. This rugged wilderness is renowned for its untouched beauty and high concentration of wildlife, including lions, elephants, and rare bird species. Relax at your lodge surrounded by panoramic views.

Day 8: Game Drives in Kidepo

Spend the day exploring Kidepo’s Narus and Kidepo valleys. Spot large herds of buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and predators like lions and leopards. Visit the Kanangorok hot springs and enjoy the unique scenery that makes Kidepo one of Africa’s best-kept secrets.

Day 9: Cultural Encounter with the Karamojong

Immerse yourself in the culture of the Karamojong, a semi-nomadic community similar to the Maasai. Learn about their traditions, dances, and unique cattle lifestyle. This cultural experience adds depth to your safari.

Day 10: Kidepo – Murchison Falls National Park

Drive to Murchison Falls, Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area. Arrive in the evening and enjoy a relaxed dinner overlooking the River Nile.

Day 11: Game Drive and Boat Cruise

Morning game drive across the Buligi tracks where elephants, lions, Rothschild’s giraffes, and hartebeests roam freely. In the afternoon, take a Nile boat cruise to the base of Murchison Falls, spotting hippos, crocodiles, and waterbirds. Hike to the top of the falls to witness the Nile squeezing through a narrow gorge.

Day 12: Murchison – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Hoima

On your way out of Murchison, stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided walking safari with white rhinos. Continue to Hoima town, the cultural heartland of the Bunyoro Kingdom.

Day 13: Hoima – Fort Portal

Travel through rolling hills, tea plantations, and crater lakes en route to Fort Portal. This charming town, set against the Rwenzori Mountains, is the perfect base for exploring western Uganda.

Day 14: Kibale National Park – Chimpanzee Tracking

Day 17: Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Cruise

Morning safari with chances of spotting elephants, buffalo, leopards, and warthogs. Afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, famous for its dense hippo population and rich birdlife.

Journey to Bwindi, home of the endangered mountain gorillas. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers a mystical experience with its dense rainforest and diverse flora.

Day 20: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

The highlight of your safari! Set off for gorilla trekking, led by experienced rangers. Encountering these gentle giants in their natural habitat is one of the most profound wildlife experiences on Earth. In the evening, relax at your lodge or enjoy cultural performances from the Batwa community.

Day 21: Bwindi – Lake Bunyonyi

Drive to Lake Bunyonyi, known as the “Switzerland of Africa” for its scenic, terraced hills and 29 islands. Enjoy canoeing, swimming, or simply relaxing by the lakeside.

Great time with gorilla trekking and Kiiza I had a great time doing gorilla trekking at Bwindi. The highlight of the trip (besides the gorillas, of course) was Kiiza, the driver/guide with whom I spent two days. Great guy, great personality, knowledgeable and really helped to elevate the bar. Wish you all the success, Kiiza! The only problem I had involved the visas required to go from Rwanda to Uganda and back. I ended up spending more than would be necessary if I had received the correct information. A small nuisance when considered the experience as a whole.

Great 4 days tour Rwanda/Uganda We had an amazing 4 days tour starting Kigali. The organization from Kyooma was very good. Mwijie was very fast in responding to messages and always reachable. Our Guide and Driver Kiiza did an excellent job bringing us to all our destinations safely & in time, and telling so many interesting stories about the country, the animals and locals, and much more. We had a fantastic time - thank you Kiiza. The highlights: so many. The amazing gorillas, the chimps at Kyambura Gorge, the playing golden monkeys, the >50 elefants at Kazinga Channel and much more. Great experiences!

An Experience We Will Treasure Forever Our 8-day journey in Uganda with Kyooma Gorilla Safari was truly unforgettable. From the very first contact, we felt listened to and genuinely cared for, with a perfectly tailor-made itinerary designed around our needs. The accommodations exceeded our expectations, the food was excellent, and every detail was thoughtfully organized. Our guide, Edgar, was not only a skilled and safe driver, but also a wonderful companion throughout the trip: knowledgeable, kind, and always ready to share insights, with very good English. Meeting the gorillas was an incredibly emotional, once-in-a-lifetime experience. We were especially grateful for the support in arranging a sedan chair for my mother, which made this extraordinary moment possible for her as well. We couldn’t have asked for more. Highly recommended!

Super bravi e organizzati!!!

High recomendation to reach out this company when planning your trip The Kyooma Gorilla Safari made our trip unforgettable. Mwije, tha manager, prepared every single detail of our journey, adapted to our needs (pick up in Rwanda, Kigali, set off in Uganda, Lake Bunyuni, incl. golden monkeys and gorilla tracking), and to our limited budget. Do not hesitate to ask her about anything, she also helped me to arrange medical treatment in local hospital! And the guide/driver Muhwezi Shever is so professional, educated and willing person always smiling. And bought us a tone of mangos in the market :-D Accomodation and food during our trip always on very high level.

Incredible 2 day gorilla trek Our experience with Kyooma for a 2 day Mountain Gorilla trek was exceptional! The entire experience was more than we could have hoped for, seeing a family of 10 gorillas up close was unforgettable. Highly recommend taking the 2 day option to visit the genocide memorial and enjoy the lodge and area, including the women's collective. Mwije (office manager at Kyooma) was so friendly and responsive, planning was easy and seamless. Our guide Robert was knowledgeable and friendly and a great driver. The accommodation at Da Vinci Lodge was excellent - the food was terrific (we chose our menu for each meal and acccomodating a vegetarian diet was no problem) and enjoyed a warm fire in our room and hot water bottles in our beds. Everyone went out of their way to make it a comfortable and worry free trip from beginning to end. Very strongly recommend Kyooma!!
